Formula Used

Focus Score = (Sleep Factor × 15) + (Physical Activity Factor × 10) - (Stress Level × 0.3) - (Screen Time × 1.5) + (Caffeine Bonus × 5)

Where:

  • Sleep Factor = Hours of sleep (max 8 hours)
  • Physical Activity Factor = 0 (none), 1 (light), 2 (moderate), 3 (intense)
  • Stress Level = 0-100 rating from slider
  • Screen Time = Hours of screen time
  • Caffeine Bonus = 1 if caffeine consumed, 0 if none

Example Calculation

Real-World Scenario:

A student preparing for an important exam wants to assess their current focus level to determine if they should study now or take a break first.

Given:

  • Hours of Sleep = 6.5 hours
  • Screen Time = 4 hours
  • Stress Level = 70/100
  • Physical Activity = Light (15-30 min)
  • Caffeine = Yes

Calculation:

Focus Score = (6.5 × 15) + (1 × 10) - (70 × 0.3) - (4 × 1.5) + (1 × 5)

Focus Score = 97.5 + 10 - 21 - 6 + 5 = 85.5

Result: 85.5/100 (Good focus level, suitable for studying complex topics)

Why This Calculation Matters

Practical Applications

  • Identify lifestyle factors that impact your concentration
  • Make informed decisions about when to tackle complex tasks

Key Benefits

  • Improve productivity by working with your natural rhythms
  • Reduce frustration from trying to focus when conditions aren't optimal

Common Mistakes & Tips

Simply counting hours in bed doesn't account for sleep quality. If you woke up frequently or had restless sleep, consider reducing your sleep hours input to better reflect restorative sleep. Consider using a sleep tracking app for more accurate data.

This calculator provides a snapshot of your current focus level, but sleep debt and chronic stress have cumulative effects. If you've had several poor nights of sleep or prolonged stress, your focus may be lower than calculated. Consider tracking these factors over time for a more complete picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

This calculator provides an estimate based on key factors that research shows influence focus and attention. However, individual variations in biology, psychology, and environment can affect your actual focus level. Use it as a guide rather than a definitive measure.

Scores above 70 generally indicate good focus levels suitable for most tasks. Scores between 40-70 suggest moderate focus that may be adequate for routine activities but challenging for complex problem-solving. Below 40 indicates limited focus where you might benefit from taking a break or improving conditions before tackling important tasks.

Some factors like taking a short break, reducing screen time, or doing brief physical activity can improve your focus within minutes. Other factors like sleep quality and stress management may require more consistent habits over days or weeks to show significant improvement. The calculator can help you identify which changes might have the most immediate impact.
